We have been serving Columbia and the surrounding area for 84 years and offering industrial and residential scrap metal service has made us a fixture in the community. That work buying, processing and selling various metals from steel to copper happens on our site, but our version of community goes well beyond that. It is a responsibility that we don’t take lightly and it has informed the partnerships that we have nurtured throughout the years!
The most recent example of this was last Thursday’s sponsorship of The Next Generation of Lancaster’s Clangin’ for a Cause event at J&J Companies. We teamed up with SWF Welding, Brubaker, Young Manufacturers and Kegels to support this learning and networking event with a prized washers tournament.
What makes this group special is it attracts young leaders from businesses all around the County, from New Holland and East Earl in the east to Mount Joy to the west and of course Lancaster City as the anchor. This group is a network of young leaders who consistently reach out to the elders in the business community for mentorship and the exchange of ideas that helps make all of the businesses in the community better. A unique feature of this organization is that every networking event is paired with a learning component, last Thursday it was a talk on leadership from Todd Rucci which put an emphasis on study and extreme effort to achieve your goals.
In true community fashion the tournament, which attracted professionals from all walks of life and industries had a prized component, won by Chris Richards and Connor Engle. Their winning was not just for them, it was for Girls on the Run as they earned $1000 for the organization!
Yes, community to us is scrap yard tours, Earth Day and America Recycle’s Day Celebrations (register here!) and connecting with our commercial and industrial partners in Ephrata, York, Harrisburg and all points in between where we offer our 24 hour turn around service. But in addition to all of that, community to us is partnership with organizations that we have a shared connection with, and a belief in their missions. Lancaster Chamber, Northern Lancaster Chamber, Manufacturer’s Association, Mantec and the High Center are just a few of these like minded organizations we collaborate with to make our community better.
We’re not just a scrap metal yard, we are a pillar of the community looking to make life better for all of us!
