Do you know the difference between ferrous and non ferrous metals?
Well If your coming to a scrap yard you definitely want to learn about these terms to make your life a whole heck of a lot easier.
Ferrous metals are items with iron in it, or in other words pretty much anything that sticks to a magnet.
so an example of this would be the steel we send to our local foundries here at our scrap yard, and as you can see the magnet sticks!
And opposite of this is non ferrous metals, which would be anything without iron in it.
Examples of this would be metals like copper, aluminum, and brass, which are generally more expensive than ferrous items, so make sure you hold on to these ones!
And as you can see with this copper there is no sticking here!
Scrap yards will typically divide their yard into two sections based on non ferrous/ferrous metals, so hopefully now youll have a better understanding of whats going on next time you go to your local yard!
Happy recycling everyone!
